 Northern Rockies Photo Flight Safari
Nature Activity Tour #01 Northern Rockies
Experience the most beautiful and remote area in northern Canada. The Northern Rocky Mountains are rich with wildlife. Skim over mountaintops, valleys, lakes and rivers with your bushpilot. Observe moose, elk, stone sheep, mountain goat, caribou, black bear and grizzly bear in their natural habitat. Together with your bushpilot stroll along sandy beaches on remote lakes, enjoy shore lunch and the breathtaking mountain scenery. Each night you return back to the comfort of our Lodge. During your week long stay at the Lodge your bushpilot takes you to the following scenic highlights:

Tuchodi Lakes
Located in a mountain valley 80 miles southeast of Muncho Lake in the heart of the Muskwa/Kechika Provincial Park. During this flight we cross over the ice capped mountain peaks and remote valleys of the northern Rocky Mountains. The blue-green waters and sandy beaches of the Tuchodi Lakes invite you to spend hours exploring the shore.

Virginia Falls
Nahanni National Park, a world heritage site. Today our flight takes us over the southeastern Yukon into the Northwest Territories. We touch down on the South Nahanni River above Virginia Falls which are twice the height of Niagara Falls. Take advantage of the hiking trails to observe the awesome falls from various viewpoints. The return flight follows the South Nahanni River with 3000 ft sheer canyon walls to the legendary Headless Valley.

Wokkpash Provincial Park and Hoodoos
We spend a day together discovering the unique gorge of the Wokkpash canyon where hundreds of "Hoodoos" (erosion pillars) line the outlet of the lake.

Spend a day visiting the best moose viewing areas in Northern BC. Moose are plentiful on Netson Lake, Pike Lake, Moose Lake and in the Kechika and Gataga Valleys. Try your luck catching fish for shore lunch while your bushpilot collects driftwood to build a roaring fire. In the afternoon take pictures of those majestic animals from a boat or canoe.

Explore the eco-system in the Muncho Lake valley, famous for its many outwashes (Alluvial Fans) which offer endless hiking opportunities. Visits to the Trout River Mineral Licks, Liard River Hotsprings and Smith River Falls complete your weeklong safari. Book your safari for August or September and enjoy the magnificent fall colours as well as the Northern Lights.

Our Lodge, a 14,000 square foot long structure, features a 45-foot high stone fireplace in a vaulted ceiling dining room. Our Chefs pride themselves in European and American cuisine. In addition to the 21 hotel rooms in our main lodge we also offer accommodations in the original log cabins and new lakeshore chalets. All units feature thermostatically controlled heat, showers and private washrooms.
Nature Activitiy Tour #01 Northern Explorer Flight Safari

Highlights of the Northern Explorer Tour are many over the course of our flight as we retrace the footsteps of early explorers and get a glimpse into the lives of bygone pioneers...

Day 1 Board Liard Air's De Havilland Twin Otter and follow the flight path of Grant McConachie and other famous bush pilots who opened up the north country. Enjoy spectacular scenery as we cruise across the Coastal Mountains, BC's Interior Plateau and the giant expanses of Williston Lake before crossing the majestic Northern Rocky Mountains to Muncho Lake Provincial Park. Overnight at Northern Rockies Lodge.

Day 2 Fly north from Muncho Lake over the Liard River and the southeastern Yukon to Virginia Falls (twice as high as Niagara Falls) and along the 3,000 foot deep Canyon System (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to Ft. Simpson in the Northwest Territories. Here we get our first sight of the Mackenzie River at its confluence with the Liard River. After lunch we follow the Mackenzie River northbound over the small native settlement of Wrigley to Norman Wells. Overnight in Norman Wells.

Day 3 The vastness of Great Bear Lake passes under our wings as we fly over the Arctic Circle enroute to Inuvik. Overnight in Inuvik.

Day 4 The meandering channels of the river lead us to Tuktoyaktuk, the Mackenzie Delta and the Arctic Coast. Touring over the uninhabited, wide-open spaces of the northern Yukon brings us to the famous gold town of Dawson City. We enjoy the history of the buildings and town, and awe at the hardships that the pioneer gold diggers experienced in Dawson City. Overnight in Dawson City.

Day 5 We soar over the mountain ranges of central Yukon to magnificent Kluane National Park. Mt. Logan, Canada's highest peak and an aerial tour of the impressive glaciers of the St. Elias mountain range are the highlight of the flight on Day 5. The Yukon's capital city - Whitehorse - welcomes us for the night. Overnight in Whitehorse.

Day 6 We leave the Yukon Territory and fly via Atlin and the Cassiar Mountains back to Muncho Lake. Overnight at Northern Rockies Lodge.

Day 7 Enjoy a day of relaxing at the Northern Rockies Lodge... take advantage of the endless hiking, wildlife viewing and fishing opportunities. Join your group for a trip to the world famous Liard River Hotsprings. Overnight at Northern Rockies Lodge.

Day 8 British Columbia’s largest provincial park and protected area, the Muskwa-Kechika Wilderness Area, is also known as the "Serengeti of the North".  grizzly and Black bears, Caribou, Moose Mounatin Goats and Eagles are frequently observed as we wing our way back to the Pacific Coast and Vancouver.
