10 Days Explorer Cruise / Vancouver - Sitka |
1 |
Vancouver
We will board in Vancouver mid- afternoon. |
|
2 |
Alert Bay, Johnstone Strait
We have lots of activities planned for today, including a shore visit to Alert Bay and a visit to a First Nations Big House to watch a Ceremonial dance, as well as diving and kayaking in Johnstone Strait. Today is one of the best chances to sight Orca whales. |
|
3 |
Hakai Pass / Queen Charlotte Islands
We'll be visiting the beautiful white sand beaches of Hakai Pass. Lots of activities for everybody include diving, paddling, sailing and limited fishing. Weather permitting, we will have a beach barbeque and bonfire on a pristine beach that is as soft as talcum powder. |
|
4 |
Inside Passage
Today promises to be a busy day with the choice of a morning stop at Carter Bay (and the wreck of the Ohio) and an afternoon dive on the wreck of the Transpac (with it's spectacular orientation) or a shore visit to the abandoned community of Butedale. We will also be bear watching and keeping our eyes peeled for both black and grizzly bears. This area is also home to the very rare and seldom sighted Kermode Bear. |
|
5 |
Dundas Island, Alaska
The adventure continues with morning activities at Dundas Island before continuing on to an evening arrival at Ketchikan. Locals consider Dundas Island to have some of the best fishing and diving on the North Coast! We'll finish the day with a walking tour of this famous Alaska town. |
|
6 |
Wrangell Narrows, Le Conte Glacier
Our day starts with a passage of the winding and twisting Wrangell Narrows. Calving glaciers, icebergs and a beautiful inlet pretty well sums up the rest of our day in LeConte Glacier. The icebergs here are the largest that we have ever seen anywhere! Guests will have lots of time to kayak and climb around on the icebergs. |
|
7 |
Coronation Island
Weather permitting we will visit Coronation Island. This preserve is way off the beaten track and not visited by any pocket cruise ships. Spectacular vertical cliffs, hundreds of thousands of birds, deserted beaches, sea caves and great diving, kayaking and fishing are just a few of its features. |
|
8 |
Yasha Island, Baranoff Hot Springs
Today is another great day with stops at the stellar sea lion colony at Yasha Island (and the chance to get way up close with either our kayaks or your scuba diving gear). More Grizzly Bear viewing and enjoy a soak at the Baranoff Hot-Springs. |
|
9 |
Sitka - Alaska
We will spend today exploring Sitka Sound where there is an astonishing amount of wildlife including humpback whales, puffins and many other seabirds, sea otters and sea lions. This is a wonderful area to dive, paddle, go ashore with our naturalist or just relax on the upper deck. |
|
