10 Days Explorer Cruise / Sitka – Vancouver & Queen Charlotte Islands
1
Sitka
Afternoon departure for Sitka Sound. There is an astonishing amount of wildlife here including humpback whales, puffins and many other seabirds, sea otters and sea lions. This is a wonderful area to dive, paddle, go ashore with our naturalist or just relax on the upper deck.
2
Sitka Sound
More exploration of Sitka Sound.
3
Yasha Islands, Baranoff Hot Springs
Today is another great day with stops at the stellar sea lion colony at Yasha Island (and the chance to get way up close with either our kayaks or your scuba diving gear). More grizzly bear watching. And a soak in Baranoff Hot-springs.
4
Coronation Island
Weather permitting we will visit Coronation Island. This preserve is way off the beaten track and not visited by any pocket cruise ships. Spectacular vertical cliffs, hundreds of thousands of birds, deserted beaches, sea caves and great diving, kayaking and fishing are just a few of it's features.
5
Masset (Haida Village), Langara - Queen Charlotte Island
After clearing Canada Customs, there will be the opportunity to explore the Haida village of Masset, northern region of Queen Charlotte Islands. This is a fantastic stop for anybody interested in First Nations culture as well as 'birding' or just going for a walk. Afternoon departure for the famous fishing Hotspot and great dive sites at Langara Island. Anchor overnight.
6
Kiusta (Haida Village)
We are planning on spending another day at Langara with more diving, great fishing, kayaking, exploration of the beautiful and deserted beach at Lepas Bay as well as a guided tour of the ancient Haida village of Kiusta. Overnight the Nautilus Explorer travels across the Strait to the mainland region.
7
Butedale
Today promises to be a busy day with the choice of a morning dive on the wreck of the Transpac (with it's spectacular orientation) or a shore visit to the abandoned community of Butedale. This is prime season for bear watching and the odds are excellent that we will see Grizzly bears today (and maybe even the rare 'Kermode' or white spirit bear). Later in the day, divers will have the opportunity to splash the sunken steamer 'Ohio'.
8
Browning Pass
After one of our last overnight runs of the trip, you can expect to wake up in 'world famous' Browning Pass (or maybe Dillon Rock) with more spectacular diving, octopus and wolfeels as well as activities for all the other folks onboard. Anchor overnight.
9
Queen Charlotte Strait
On our last full day at sea, we will be transitting Queen Charlotte Strait with a very good chance of seeing orcas and maybe even getting in the water with dolphins. In our experience, we have always had our best luck in viewing these critters during early September. You can count on more activities including a shore visit and diving the Stubbs Island area.
10
Vancouver
We will arrive in Vancouver early afternoon.
