Bowron Lakes Sled Dog Touring
THE CANADIAN ESKIMO DOG
This beautiful and wild looking dog bears very much resemblance to the well-known Husky and goes back 2000 years in history. They are direct descendants of the polar wolf tamed and trained by Eskimos up in the high arctic to be used for packing, hunting and as sled dogs. Canada’s oldest aboriginal race was virtually on the edge of extinction 15 years ago when Bill Carpenter of Yellowknife managed to find some unregistered but purebred animals. His Eskimo Dog Research Foundation brought the breed back to international recognition.

01
Arrival Day
Transfer by 4x4 Vehicle or snowmobiles to Kruger Lake Camp - a beautiful lake on a elevation of 980 meters and one kilometer outside the northern boundary of Bowron Lake Park. The Camp is located in a picturesque setting along the lakeshore with a view across the lake of the Indianpoint Mountains. It consists of two log cabins, one serving as a dormitory, the other one as kitchen, dining room and staff-quarter. There is no electricity or running water and an outhouse is the only sanitary installation. This is the home of trapper Tim and his family and your stay here makes you feel like living back in the old days of fur traders, trappers and prospectors. Afternoon introduction to dog sledding.
