02/03 Days Waterton Lakes Base Camp
GRT#06 Waterton Lakes Base Camp
Overview: Explore over 15,000 acres of high country wilderness area bordering the eastern slopes of Waterton Lakes/Glacier National Park. This area is a combination of crown and private land that has been the high country summer pasture for Ranchers’ cattle herds for over 100 years. Each day will be spent exploring different scenic trails, rich with a diversity of landscapes & history. With consideration to your comfort level, we do have some flexibility to the amount of riding time that you choose to do each day. On the last day of your ride, you will return to the Ranch around 4 p.m. Your riding adventure begins at the Nelson Ranch where your guide will match you up with a horse suited to your riding ability. You will be part of a small personalized group (around 6 to 10) and with respect for both horse and rider, we allow some freedom of movement not found in nose to tail rides. This enhances the enjoyment of the ride for our guests, as well as benefiting our horses by helping them stay responsive.
Wilderness Base Camp: Ride into a secluded valley to our remote base camp, a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. The camp is free from electricity, and yet our guests still enjoy the comfort, privacy, & security of 4 log-style sleeping cabins, nestled among tall majestic pines. Each of these charming pine cabins has comfortable double & single beds, and each booking is ensured their own private cabin. Well maintained outhouses are conveniently situated nearby, and for those who want to spruce up after a long days ride we have the added luxury of a cedar shower enclosure for hot showers. We have provided a hand crafted cedar hot tub, heated by a unique submerged wood stove. This 8 person hot tub is situated in the heart of the base camp, surrounded by tall stately pines. Envision yourself soaking and relaxing in steaming hot spring water, amidst the aroma of cedar and pine. Delicious western meals include: top quality Alberta beef steaks, fresh salads & delicious pies. Hearty full course breakfasts & satisfying trail lunches are also a highlight. (If given enough prior notice, we will do our best to accommodate specific dietary concerns.) For your enjoyment on your Overnight Wilderness Riding Adventures, we have provided several canoes for your use on Little Beaver Lake, just a short 15 min. walk from camp.
