RBC#09 Thompson & Fraser River

Start with the wildest of the Thompson, add the mightiest of the Fraser and the result: an adrenaline-filled, big-water experience. The ancient rock walls of Black Canyon tower above as we begin our 160-kilometre, 3-Day adventure. The dry desert climate and the clear blue waters of the Thompson are the perfect companions on the first day of this expedition. The first night you camp out near Spence's Bridge. Enjoy this evening a delicious dinner, prepared by your guide. After a hearty breakfast you run today the Thompson River down to Lytton. Challenge the rapids with our paddle rafts or lounge about on our larger power rafts and enjoy a day of whitewater and frequent sightings of osprey, eagles and Big-horn Sheep. You will encounter the power of Devil's Gorge, Cutting Board, the Cauldron, Jaws and more. Choose either paddle or power for over 40 km of fun. After lunch you're onto the Fraser for an afternoon of spectacular canyon views. As we change rivers, the blue waters of the Thompson mix with the silt-laden waters of the mighty Fraser just above the canyon.

The highlight of day 3 is the boiling, churning, pounding whitewater of the world famous Hell's Gate. With rapids more powerful than the Colorado River we board larger motor rafts called j-rigs for the remainder of the trip. We also move from dry sage-covered hills and white limestone cliffs, to lush conifer forests and moss-covered granite banks carved by the force of this free flowing river. Our guides are skilled professionals experienced in all aspects of whitewater rafting and able to deal competently with all types of circumstances. They will handle your trip with confidence and assurance from the moment you embark until journey's end - you can put your trust in them. All our guides are fully trained in Wilderness First Aid and CPR and each one will go that extra step to ensure you enjoy your rafting experience in safety and comfort. They'll be pleased to answer your questions about sights and places along the river, so count on them to add that extra personal touch to your adventure. We meet at Yale at 8 A.M. on Day 01, return to Yale about 4 P.M. on Day 03.
