LRRM #03 Lodge
Yoho National Park
Jun 15 – Sept 30
Built by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1902 as one of a series of camps erected to encourage travel and thus recoup the cost of the expensive rail line, the Chalet at Emerald Lake was the creme de la creme. The 85 guest units are spread over three hillsides, each with a water view. The studios and the suites contain queen-sized beds covered with comforters, and the homey feel of antiques and wicker. All rooms have stone hearth fireplaces, private entrances, full baths and telephones. The property is on a finger of land that reaches into Emerald Lake, and is reachable only by crossing a wooden bridge. The building's two massive stone fireplaces remain the focal point for the Emerald Lounge and lobby. And the Kicking Horse Bar's 1882 oak bar adds a grand reminder of the Yukon's lively Gold Rush days. There's a Club House with an outdoor 14-foot hot tub, and sauna and sundeck, both with wonderful views down into the lake. The lodge is gaining a well-earned reputation for its new regional Rocky Mountain Cuisine, featuring outstanding presentations of game and award-winning regional wines.
