Winter in the Arctic is breathtaking with twilight hours accented by red glowing sunrise and sunsets lasting for hours. Crisp air and crunchy footsteps break the silence while Northern Lights fill the sky. Located 35 miles north of the Arctic Circle within the "Gates of the Arctic National Park", Bettles offers some of the finest Aurora viewing in Alaska.
 
   
DAY ITINERARY ACCOMMODATION
01 Fairbanks
Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Remaining day at leisure. Visit the University of Alaska and the Northern Lights Research Institute.

02 Fairbanks - Bettles
Transfer to the airport and scenic flight along the Trans-Alaska-Pipeline and across the mighty Yukon River to Bettles at the outskirts of the world famous Gates of the Arctic National Park / Brooks Range. Lunch. Afternoon: meet your mushing hosts the - Iditarod / Yukon Quest professionals Bill & Kathie McKey for a short sled dog mushing introduction and for short area trips. Evening: Dinner and Northern Lights viewing.

03 Bettles / On the Trail
After breakfast - preparation of sleds and equipment and you are ready to hit the trail. You travel with your own team through a frozen winter wonderland, lush Boreal forested areas and across frozen riverbeds. We gather firewood, melt water and enjoy a delicious home cooked meal in a cabin or heated tent. Another day of spectacular Northern Lights viewing.

04 Return to Bettles
Another day of mushing excitement and experience. Afternoon return to the lodge. Guided tour to a historic native settlement “ Evansville “ on the banks of the Koyukuk River. Meet the natives and learn about their lifestyle in the remote location.

05 Bettles - Fairbanks
Return flight to Fairbanks and transfer to your hotel. Fairbanks hosts a variety of events during the winter time: Ice carving competition, Eskimo Olympics, Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race, All American Sled Dog Championship etc.. Please inquire for actual dates.

06 Fairbanks
Transfer to the airport. End of services or individual program extension. We offer a variety of 4x4 self drive tours, snowmachine rentals or alpine skiing at the Alyeska Resort.
